Pfilates at Proactive!
Many of you may be familiar with the very popular fitness form of Pilates, but did you ever imagine there would be a pilates exercise program specifically for your pelvic floor muscles?
Pfilates was developed by Dr. Bruce Crawford, a Urogynecologist from the USA. His research has involved examining the electrical activity within the pelvic floor and surrounding muscles including the buttocks, inner thighs and abdominal muscles. From his studies, he came up with 10 exercises that enhance the activation of the pelvic floor muscles and therefore strengthen the area. This can help improve bladder, bowel and sexual function! The program is appropriate for pelvic floor dysfunctions such as prolapse, post-partum and post-menopausal weakness, stress and urge urinary incontinence and fecal incontinence.
Certified Pfilates Instructors at Proactive Pelvic Health Centre can help educate you on this specific regime of exercises. By learning how to properly recruit your muscles during its peak engagement, you can be well on your way to developing a healthy and conditioned pelvic floor.
