Cynara Povoa is a highly skilled Registered Physiotherapist with extensive clinical experience specializing in pelvic health. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy (2002) and a Post-Baccalaureate in Gynecology and Urogynecology (2003) from the Federal University of Sao Paulo, as well as a Graduate Certificate in Bridging to Canadian Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta (2020).
Cynara offers a specialized, evidence-based approach to the clinic, focusing on
complex pelvic floor dysfunctions, including urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, bowel dysfunction, sexual pain, pregnancy, and postpartum rehabilitation. She also possesses specialized training in pediatric pelvic floor dysfunction and has significant expertise in pessary management, having previously launched and led a dedicated Pessary Clinic.
Cynara utilizes a biopsychosocial framework in her practice, integrating biological, psychological, and social factors into patient care. This holistic approach is supported by her specialized movement-based training; she is a certified Pilates instructor and is trained in Hypopressive exercises with Marcel Caufriez, allowing her to offer diverse, effective exercise strategies for pelvic floor health. To achieve the best results for her patients, Cynara also utilizes advanced clinical technology in her practice, including biofeedback.
A firm believer in the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration, Cynara is passionate about mentoring, education, and empowering patients to take control of their pelvic health. She is bilingual and provides clinical services in English and Portuguese.
